After 59 seasons as an organization, the Phoenix Suns somehow still got their “welcome to the NBA” moment against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, it came in the form of an opening-night beatdown.
Portland ran away with this game almost immediately. The Suns didn’t score their first points until Devin Booker went to the free-throw line following a six-minute scoring drought. Their first field goal came just over a minute later.
By the end of the first quarter, Portland had built a commanding 43-12 lead, and the Suns never came close to making up the difference. Phoenix couldn’t find its shooting rhythm, and the deficit only continued to grow.
The shooting was horrendous, but the coaching left plenty to be desired, too.
